Mainamati is an isolated chain of low hills and dimples, dotted with more than 50 ancient Buddhist settlements dating between the eighth and twelfth centuries. It was part of the former Samatata division of Bengal. It extends through the center of the Comilla district in Bangladesh. Mainamati is located almost 7 miles from the city of Comilla. It is home to one of the most important Buddhist archeological sites in the region.

The cantonment of Comilla is nearby and houses a beautiful colonial-era cemetery. Mainamati is named after Queen Chandra of the same name, mother of Govindachandra. Mainamati is 114 kilometers from the city of Dhaka via National Highway 1 and is almost 162 kilometers from Chittagong. In addition, there is a Buddhist temple next door.
